Review of White Fang (1991) by Kevin R — 04 Dec 2015
I swear there was a wolf in with the dogs.
A half breed wolf and husky is found by some trappers and sold to a man in dog fighting. After losing a fight he is rescued by a boy who takes him out into the wild and trains him. Life is tough in the wilderness of Alaska and the wolf may have a chance to return the favor of saving the boy's life.
"What's he doing?".
"Cleaning his teeth.".
"How'd they get dirty?".
Randal Kleiser, director of Grease, Big-Top Pee Wee, The Blue Lagoon, Flight of the Navigator, Honey I Blew Up the Kids, and Getting It Right, delivers White Fang. The storyline for this picture is very well told, compelling, and a unique coming of age picture. The acting is excellent and includes Ethan Hawke, James Remar, Bill Moseley, Klaus Maria Brandauer, and Seymour Cassel.
"He's on his way up the golden staircase.".
I came across this on Showtime Anytime and had to watch it again for the first time in a long time. It was okay and fun to watch unfold. Ethan Hawke delivered his character perfectly and the obstacles that needed to be overcome was worthwhile. I recommend watching this at least once.
Grade: B.
