Review of White Dog (1982) by Kyle E — 29 Jan 2011

White Dog is probably the most absurd movie I've seen in quite some time. It could go down as the movie that has the most absurd premise ever. Basically here's the scoop: a young actress accidentally runs over a dog, and takes it to the vet. The vet fixes the dog up, and because she can't find the owner, and feels guilty, she takes the dog home with her. Well wouldn't you know it, some maniac tries to break in and rape her, and luckily old fido is around to put the guy down (in probably the most ridiculous scene I've seen in all my years of watching 80's horror films). So obviously, this chick is now attached to her new canine friend.

That is, then the dog runs away. She searches everywhere, meanwhile the dog does his first attack, on a black person. Wouldn't you know it, this dog has been trained to be a racist. Yep, I said it, this dog doesn't like African Americans. Sound ridiculous? Yes. It is probably the most ridiculous movie ever. From here on, she attempts to have this dog's physiological problem fixed. I'm sure you can probably guess how it ends, and it doesn't end well.

I'm still blown away at the fact that someone can train a colorblind dog how to attack African Americans. But as I said, in terms of sheer 80's horror enjoyment, "White Dog" is a fantastic and ridiculous ride.
