Review of White Christmas (1954) by Bill T — 22 Apr 2008
Continuing the tradition of watching Christmas movies when it's not Christmas, we have "White Christmas". Hooo boy, this is a TON of fudge that we are supposed to believe. When Danny Kaye and Bing Crosby (2 actors, by the way, I don't have much love for) decide to help out their Ex-General friend who's Vermount hotel is struggling, the implausibilties just never end.
How on earth can two guys pull off such a HUGE show (I mean, look at the sets, the costumes, the PEOPLE?) in such a small little rathole? Needless to say, despite all it's ridiculousness, because it's syrupy, warm and features some dynamite music and dancing, everyone pulls it off.
I don't really CONSIDER this a christmas film, the whole thing is a backstage musical thing with CHristmas stuff bookending it, it still is a pretty good musical.
