Review of White Christmas (1954) by Davey M — 27 Dec 2011
Some of Berlin's most popular songs, a watered-down Astaire-and-Rogers style romantic comedy of errors, and some interesting postwar nostalgia for the military. It's pretty pedestrian, pretty standard stuff, and Curtiz's direction seems strangely off--movement within the frame is elegant but uninspired (with the exception of some of the best dance numbers), and the story moves at what sometimes feels like a glacially slow pace.
Still, Crosby's voice is typically beautiful (so's Clooney's), Danny Kaye is typically delightful, Vera-Ellen's dancing is tremendous, and there are some good numbers.
