Review of White Boy Rick (2018) by Justfizz Y — 29 Sep 2018
White Boy Rick: crack for a movie addict.
Well it looks like this one is circling the Tomatometer drain. Can we look again? Yup, the story is soft.
Ok, I admit it. The main part of the movie is watching character performances by Matthew McConaughey, Richie Merritt and Bel Powley. The last time I saw Bel Powley was in Carrie Pilby on Netflix. ( Have seen it twice.). I enjoyed seeing her character Dawn, as Powley demonstrates her acting chops alongside her role in Carrie Philby. Nice range. Matthew McConaughey's performance is right up there with Dallas Buyers Club. The eyeballed volcanic rage seen as Richard (the dad) watches his son's assailant unload a car at night is excellent. Then there's White Boy Rick, an individual, apparently, genetically incapable of experiencing fear. Understated mayhem. Anyway. Three quotes will survive this movie. "You want French fries with that?" "Who (the hell) buys fries without ketchup?" "Blow me.".
