Review of White Bird in a Blizzard (2014) by Hugo G — 24 Sep 2014
This movie had a very good director as well as a great cast led by Shailene Woodley, who gave an excellent performance that felt more like the ones she was known for, which were very strong, but also felt very gratifying to me because it reminded me of how great she was and of how much she is capable of. Also, all the cast was great, but in supporting and very important roles were Eva Green and Christopher Meloni, which both were great and really gave a very important push to the whole movie and the story. But overall no one felt dragged on, nor anyone were bad in their respective character. Moreover, what I liked about the movie was that it was mysterious, funny, and also very real and told in a kind of fantastic tone but without being too whimsical but more dream-like. Also, I liked the fact that it didn't feel in the beginning like a straight up mystery movie, but it somehow developed into a very tense a thrilling story as it unfolded on Shailene's eyes and its audience, which was great and more than I expected. Overall, I hope the movie receives the attention and praise it deserves because it is a very good movie and definitely one of the best I've seen this year. Because simply Gregg Araki has a very particular vision and it shows very well throughout the whole movie, from its character to the color pallets of everything, it was great and it also looked great.
