Review of White Bird in a Blizzard (2014) by Patrick S — 22 Oct 2014
White Bird In A Blizzard may boast another great performance from Shailene Woodley and some interesting ideas, but these are overshadowed by the films flaws. Eva Greens performance is unintentionally hilarious, which is perhaps the director and writers fault more then her own because her character was absolutely ridiculous to begin with.
Their are these really heavy handed, horrible looking dream sequences throughout the film, and the dialogue seems like it was taken straight from the book rather than adapted to suit the film itself, which makes for dialogue that sounds really unnatural, it's especially noticeable when Kat is narrating the story.
The film has a final plot twist that made me roll my eyes straight to the back of my head, and I think the balance between the coming of age aspect to the film and the mystery aspect is really uneven and messy.
Sadly, this film is not worth seeing just for its admittedly impressive central performance.
