Review of Whisper (2007) by Gareth J — 08 Jan 2009
As a fan of both horror films and genre thrillers, I have to admit that Whisper was as bog standard as you can get when retreading the now done to death 'creepy kid' genre. Whilst successful in ticking all the boxes necessary to make the film marketable, it must be said that even the setting feels flat, with the same predictable character archs as every other film of its kind and very few plot twisted which are either unexpected or believable.
Time and experience may have left me rather a jaded figure in this regard and I may be judging Whisper a little harshly since it is Stewart Hendler's debut film, so I urge people not to simply take my word for it. Some may love the way the film painted usual genre situations in a different light but for me they were as predictable as the Alaskan winter weather forcast, so I guess this one is best left to individual preference.
