Review of Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (2016) by James M — 05 Mar 2016
File under dramedy. For the majority of its running time, WTF is comedic or pulling the humor from moments one cannot help but feel shouldn?t be joked about. This is not a film for the cinematographer to make beautiful as much as to make it look real.
It looks real to me, but what do I know. Eventually the film takes a deeper dive under the context of embedded reporters in Afghanistan, into something more simply existential. We human have less control over the rudder of events in our lives than we give ourselves credit for.
The film does find its heart in the character of Fahim, played deftly by Christopher Abbott.
