Review of Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (2016) by Cooper J — 10 Mar 2016
I went to see Whiskey Tango Foxtrot this afternoon, primarily because I had seen practically everything else that had even remote interest for me. Considering Saturday Night Live and her TV series, I expected this movie to be relatively stupid and more Tina Fey silliness.
I wondered how they were going to hold the viewer's interest with 1 hour 52 minutes of that. As it turned out, the movies was really very well done by any standards and infinitely entertaining. I did see some of Tina Fey slipping through but it seemed more her character than tv silliness.
She played the role of a newly embedded war correspondent in Afghanistan. She played her character in a very believable manner. The comedy, drama and actions scenes were well balanced so that it neither seemed like a comedy or a war movie, but a real story of someone adapting to a frightening new reality.
She special effects war sequences were intense but short so you aren't worn down by it. And, having spent 2 years in Pakistan and Afghanistan, I would have sworn this was filmed in the midst of all that was going on there.
Well done, Tina Fey (actress and producer). By the way, the critics suck.
