Review of Whiplash (2014) by Wiscojoe — 24 Nov 2014
This cliched after-school special of a movie plays like a cross between Black Swan and Mr. Holland's Opus and every other "struggling genius underdog" movie ever made. Fine performances from Teller and Simmons and incredibly tight editing can't make up for the thread-bare story and the unlikable, unrealistic characters.
If you're interested in jazz or in drumming, seek out a local music venue and treat yourself to something real.
