Whilst I wish it had dug a little deeper in certain ways and I disagree with what seems to be the central message, Whiplash is an expertly crafted, electric cinematic experience - building and maintaining tension consistently from beginning to end with incredible effectiveness and economy.

I would've liked to see another half hour or so to flesh out the background of J.K.'s character a little more - but I mean, it's been a very long time since my main criticism towards a movie was that I think it wasn't long enough.
