Review of Whiplash (2014) by Kyle S — 18 May 2016
The film delivers one of the most satisfying stories of the year. Whiplash follows a young jazz drummer who has a tunneling dream of being the best. Miles Teller and J.K. Simmons have extraordinary chemistry as one of the most emotional acting performances I have ever seen. You feel every emotion of hate, determination, heartbreak, and fulfillment. Damien Chazelle proved his talent as a writer and director with his brilliant film.
Whiplash feels like a sports film that is directed towards musical talent. With a culture that is athletically driven, we sometimes forget the time, dedication, and sacrifice that goes into artistic success. And Whiplash reminds us all.
The film was one of the most rewarding dramas I have seen and left me speechless after the credits rolled. Whiplash is a true 5 star film.
