Review of Whiplash (2014) by Sanjay R — 14 Jan 2018
Whiplash is one of the best movies to come out in 2014, thanks in large part to Damian Chazelle and J.K Simmons. Chazelle does a great job capturing the tension of a serious band practice/audition and the nerves of all of the players.
J.K Simmons, however, really steals the show. He is one of those characters that excites the viewer every time he shows up on screen because you just know something interesting is going to happen when he does.
His performance is fantastic and his character is even better. Apart from that, the screenplay is decent, as is Miles Teller, but this film really leans on it's director, editor and the stellar performance of Simmons, which proved to be a great decision.
