Review of Whiplash (2014) by Mary N — 12 Feb 2018
This movie is superb. Not only is the sheer aesthetic of the cinematography beautiful beyond belief, everything else is, too. The direction was flawless. My hat is off to Damien Chazelle. The portrayal of the struggle behind devoted prodigies was so real that it made my heart hurt a little bit.
The casting was great. Even though the film industry isn't the biggest fan of Miles Teller, there is no doubt in my mind that kid can act. J.K Simmons is legendary in this film. His intensity is terrifying and inspirational.
The dynamic between the characters is something you must see. If you don't like jazz, this movie will change your mind and your appreciation for drumming will sky rocket.
