Tom Cross (Crazy Heart, Deadwood) holds a clinic in film editing. We may never quite be able to articulate the language of jazz, but the highly technical construction of film has evolved into a language unto itself - a syncopation of craft, vision and instinct.
This film is so seamlessly sliced and diced, pitched so perfectly, tempo and rhythm so finely tuned, that I truly believed the final scene was going to explode in cloud of smoke and disappear - just as the closing credits rolled.
An unlikely gem, created in the cutting room by Tom Cross and sound editors Craig Mann, Ben Wilkins and Thomas Curley - albeit with the finest of ingredients, not the least of which was the performance of J.K.Simmons.
My personal choice for Best Picture of the Year!
