Review of Whip It (2009) by Wil R — 29 Sep 2010
To sum it up: this pleases me. Everything about it--casting, acting, writing, directing--comes together rather beautifully. Kinda like a more polished and refined version of Footloose; or a more upbeat version of Ghost World, what with our teen heroine pursuing her passion within the constrict of her small town life.
The characters certainly have, well, character in abundance, topped off with noms de guerre such as Babe Ruthless, Eva Destruction and Smashley Simpson. All in all, I got me some engaging, well-crafted storytelling and a nice helping of roller-candy to go with it.
Like I'd pass up two hours with Ellen Page!
