Drew Barrymore's debut film as director won't win any originality awards (apart from featuring rock-em sock-em womens roller derby) but it's treated with enough fun and enthusiasm by all involved to win you over.
Crammed full of coming of age, sports and teen romance movie cliches it proves that a good cast can make all the difference, notably a very believeable mother-daughter relationship nicely played by Page and Harden.
A rare decent grrrl power movie.
