Drew Barrymore's directorial debut is a solid first effort with lots of promise for the talented young woman who also has a successful acting and producing career. Ellen Page plays Bliss Cavender a young girl who wants more excitement in her life.
She discovers the roller derby league and signs up for the thrilling and sometimes violent sport. There she finds some meaning to her life while defying the beliefs of her strict parents. We've seen this coming of age story several times before, but this is a well made film.
