Review of Whip It (2009) by Laurel S — 06 May 2011
This movie might have one of my favorite cast ensembles ever. Well, maybe not. Regardless, any movie with Ellen Page automatically has me interested. And I didn't know it until I started, but Alia Shawkat (Maebe on Arrested Development) plays a relatively major character.
So if it was just those two, I would have been hooked. But we've also got good appearances from director Drew Barrymore, Juliette Lewis, and Marcia Gay Harden. Even actors I haven't heard of before blew me away, such as the guy who played the role of supervisor at the diner Page and Shawkat's characters work at.
The script is fairly decent--a bit predictable, but as far as standard scripts goes this offers good times. Definitely recommended.
