Review of Whip It (2009) by Sara H — 14 Nov 2010
For years I've disagreed with people who claimed that Drew Barrymore was a smart and talented actress. Finally, she steps behind the Camera, but stays in front of it also. Whip It wasn't anything special; it's pretty much the typical teen version of Rocky we've seen a million times before, just a different sport.
Ellen Page and a couple of good lines made this film decent, but it's very formulaic and predictable doesn't quite cover it. Plus, whenever Drew Barrymore followed her ego and made a big deal about her character coming on screen, it was painful to watch because she is just so terrible an actress.
