Review of While You Were Sleeping (2010) by Marina G — 29 Nov 2009
Sometimes a film comes along that speaks to you. When I was 23 years old, I was 2 years into an awful relationship (for A LOT of reasons), I saw this movie once by myself, once with my mother, once with him, and then...7 times by myself. Seriously. 7 Times. I worked at a post house on Sunset & Orange Grove and all I had to do was drive one block up, park, and buy a ticket to see it at the El Capitan. Quite honestly, I even had one particular seat in the balcony for those 7 days.
As much as it might seem like I would, I didn't break up with him after the week long "While You Were Sleeping" marathon. Hell, it took another 9-10 months, but the thing is...when your life is THAT bad (which mine was), it sometimes is a film, book, or song that speaks louder than a friend, parent, or adviser.
(I also think my love affair with Chicago has A LOT to do with this film).
