Review of While You Were Sleeping (1995) by James B — 19 Dec 2008
This is a film of the little things; the boy falling off his bike while delivering the papers, confused banter around a bustling dinner table, trees falling through windows - and all of this to carry along a romantic plot that we have seen since Shakespeare (and earlier).
It is a cute story of a woman who stumbles into a family, and ends up finding a husband, and it is effective, but as already stated, what truly makes this movie fun to watch is all of the small moments that occur around the family.
Outside of a rather simple plot-line, the two things that really holds me back from really enjoying this film are Peter Gallagher and Sandra Bullock. Neither are anything pleasant to look at, and the 1990's attire does nothing to redeem them, and to top that off, neither character is all that fun to watch.
Bill Pullman's character of Jack, and the rest of the Callaghan family are the true stars that pull this tale together.
