Review of While We're Young (2015) by Alex H — 06 Apr 2015
Despite some interesting twist and turns along the way, While We're Young isn't the magnum opus from Noah Baumbach that I was hoping for. While managing to get great laughs and performances from his cast (including the magnetic Adam Horowitz aka Ad-Rock), the film has its cake and eats it regarding its subject matter and suffers for its moral ambiguity.
Some scenes provide very little to the story and seem to be thrown in for "quirks" sake while others are a tad predictable and literally ripped from Woody Allen's back catalogue. The premise itself is very Allen-esque and it's hard to disassociate from the influences while watching.
Nevertheless, there are some interesting technical achievements, cinematography and, don't get me wrong!, it is funny! I just expected a little more focus and less unlikeable, unengaging, characters.
