Review of While We're Young (2015) by Veronica V — 25 Apr 2015
I went to see the movie 2 days ago and I am still thinking about it. I rarely want to write directly to a director to tell him that I think what he has done is amazing. This film is. It's honest and complex and my sweetheart and I are both very critical and we both loved it, which well.
.. rarely happens. The last time we saw a film and talked about it for many hours -- it was Boyhood. This film is worth seeing, that is all I can say. I relate to the film in so many ways because I am a film geek and loved the references and quite honestly the reason why it's so good is that Western culture worships being young and no one ever talks about getting.
.. not OLD, old... but this film explores the middle age thing... the we are so bored with ourselves and our relationships - and it's brutally honest and funny. The writing is great because it's all true.
The contrasts, and explorations about "integrity" -- and when people in their 40's try and live vicariously in a pathetic way ... and facing failure.... the actors are very vulnerable and it's a story that did not bore me and captured the things that no one is saying or writing about.
I have respect for that. The ending was kind of meh- I wish it had been a bit more open ended in a way.
