Review of While We're Young (2015) by Andy K — 06 May 2015
This is my student's review:
I thought that the film was great. The dialogue was very real and it felt as if I was really interacting with the characters. The acting was good for the most part. The role played by Ad-Rock or Adam Horowitz was alright. I noticed that he had this weird thing where he would always look back at the camera every ten to fifteen seconds. Other than that, the acting was good. Nothing really standout good, like the Joker from The Dark Knight or Hannibal Lector from Silence of the Lambs. The length of the film was perfect. It never felt like it was dragging on like some movies that have an ending, then a ten to twenty minute epilogue. That really pisses me off. The epilogue was like three minutes. Perfect. The plot was pretty basic. It started going through some twists and turns towards the end.
It's about a documentary filmmaker who's having a hard time finishing his film that he's been working on for eight years. He's living under the shadow of his father-in-law who is also a famous documentary filmmaker. Stiller was teaching an extension class and also doing a very bad job at it when he meets Adam Driver's character, Levine, who claims he loves all of Stiller's films. They immediately hit it off and start hanging out. Levine asks Stiller if he wants to help him on his new film debut. Stiller says yes, and they start to work on it. It's about meeting your friends from FaceBook in real life and seeing how they're doing. I'm just gonna leave it off at that so I don't spoil the plot.
The movie made me feel that when I turn forty or fifty, my life's gonna suck. The title means that you have to do what you want to do while you're still young. Otherwise, you won't be happy with your life. That's how Stiller's character feels. Well, that's my review. I'd give it an 8/10.
