Review of While We're Young (2015) by Frnchtoastjesus — 20 Apr 2015
There's a scene with Ben Stiller rollerblading to an event for which he is late. Early on, Jamie says that he and his wife were married in an empty water tower. Here's the problem: It stands out in the Wrong Way.
Like having a fine Prime Rib and you discover it's been rubbed with cilantro and cinnamon. Interesting, but it just doesn't work. Baumbach wants us to admire his creativity, his 'subtle genius'. But he's not Truffaut, he's not even Spike Lee or Wes Anderson.
He's someone who got into the party through a door they were using to throw out the empties; now he thinks he's a guest.
