Review of While We're Young (2015) by Luvmelancholia — 30 Apr 2015
Anxious to see a comedy amidst the current world turmoil, I was enormously disappointed in the lack of laughs in this move. Ben Stiller (Josh) and Naomi Watts (Cornelia) play a 40 ish childless couple who become enamored with the energy and eclectic lifestye of the much younger couple Jaime (Adam Driver) and Darby (Amanda Seyfried).
The "friendship" initially seems like great fun...riding bikes, learning hip-hop dancing and providing one of the fewl funny scenes; attending a street beach party. Soon it is revealed the motivation of Jaime to meet this couple was to use them for promoting his career.
The truth propels the foursome to facing some issues that result in individual growth. Josh and Cornelia achieve greater intamacy and a reinvigoration of their creativity. If only the movie had stopped there instead of opting for the hollywood ending, it could have been an intelligent look at a lifestyle choice that didn't involve children.
