While We're Young is a light-hearted yet subtly revelatory film centered on a couple rediscovering their youth. It reveals the fallacy behind the widely accepted doctrine that age is merely a number.
Josh (Ben Stiller) and Cornelia (Naomi Watts) are a middle-aged couple who become infatuated with Jamie (Adam Driver) and Darby (Amanda Seyfried). Jamie and Darby's easy-going, spontaneous nature brings Josh and Cornelia back to their younger days.
With comedic lines and heartfelt moments strung throughout, While We're Young delivers it's honest message in a humorously awakening manner. Though it's story is a fun depiction of relationships mudded by generation gaps, jealousy and difference, some aspects appear too fabricated.
Jamie's character falls perfectly into this "hipster-youth" category that has become overdone.The predictability of his character's personality and his subsequent role in the film was too commonplace.
Moreover, Darby (Jamie's husband) seems to adhere to some prototypical script for the "happy" wife who is truly despondent. Despite its flaws, I do recommend watching this film if you're looking for that easy-going drama with bits of comedy here and there.
Stiller excels alongside Watts and the movie leaves you with that oddly heavy yet simultaneously gratifying feeling.
