Review of While We're Young (2015) by Emiy K — 02 Jul 2015
The movie itself follows much the same arc as the story line. It starts off fun, joyous, entertaining. Watching Stiller and Watts try and keep up with their younger counterparts is actually funny plus Driver is about as charming as they come.
It doesn't seem like they're mocking today's youth so much as trying to understand it, maybe at times a bit heavy handedly, granted. Then things take a turn for the self-serious and preachy.
The second act gets bogged down in the same indecisiveness that Stiller faces. It feels like Baumbach couldn't pick an ending so they shot both and edited them together instead of deciding. It would have been so much more satisfying if he'd just chosen, either way.
