Review of While We're Young (2015) by Shubhra R — 15 May 2015
One could perhaps be generous and make the argument that the film is itself a reflection of Josh's (the protagonist) squeezed condition between his much older and famous father-in-law's heroism and his younger, on his way to being famous, friend's zeal - a self-absorbed entanglement.
Unfortunately for us, the audience, it is angst without any grace or poetry, not to mention empathy, and ends up feeling like an insular and sour mid-life crisis of a privileged white man. A very shaky ending (couple going to Haiti to adopt a child as though they were going shopping for a new puppy) only adds to the overall disgust.
