Review of While the City Sleeps (1956) by Eric R — 24 Jun 2010
When the head of a mayor newspaper dies, his son creates a competition between the staff editors to crack a major news story, The Lipstick Killer. Its a film that follows these men as they compete to become head of the newspaper as well as the evens of this, Lipstick Killer.
Its rather standard fair for a Fritz Lang film, but While The City Sleep does still have some quality things to offer. There is some beautiful lighting and Lang does do a great job as always creating this dark atmosphere to highlight the unease of the Lipstick Killer.
Its interesting because I think the film ultimately doesn't succeed because its not sure exactly what it wants to be.
