Review of While She Was Out (2008) by Andy C — 09 May 2009
I can imagine Ms. Basinger at home reading the latest script handed to her by her agent and I see her howling out loud with laughter. This movie must have been a fun (and quick) read for Ms. Basinger that I, personally, can't blame her for wanting to make it.
Let's face it. She's made worse choices in her career. Am I being unfair to this movie? Not really. It's a cheap quickie made for the midnite movie market. The story has absolutely no attention span but the acting and the directing are handled so well that I didn't care and was drawn in to its absurdity.
The key to this movie's success lies in Basinger's performance. She could have over-played the character but remains reserved, and focused, that you begin to wonder if she's been down this violent road before and isn't going to take it again.
