Review of Where to Invade Next (2015) by Lori B — 26 Feb 2016
Up until the film diverted rather crudely from an entertaining and sentimental juxtaposition of European and American values to naively pontificating that women were altruistic saviours of humanity, it wasn't actually such a bad film.
I'm not saying they're not, don't get me wrong. They may be. It's actually an interesting notion, that maybe a feminine touch at the world's helm is what we've been missing all these years.
I'm just saying it was a bizarre escalation to an un-cogent, ridiculously unconcealed pro feminist plug, from a rather mild, liberal take on where America needs to clean up its act. Infact it was that point, where the sentence 'Hang on, he wants me to vote Hillary', ultimately sprang to mind, and I felt like a right muppet in hindsight.
I ate it all up. Just to make it clear - I don't care who wins the election in America. I was simply a movie goer who was patronised and deceived by Moore's machination. The use of Nazi Germany, the berlin wall and Anders Brevik all used to further incite anti right wing America sentiments, just shows the righteousness of Moore in his political crusade and that he's almost shameless in his plight.
I think he's a nice guy who knows right from wrong(or certainly the left), but the furtive political agenda behind his films is irritating and you could say he's selling himself short by being anchored to it.
Spread your wings Moore. Transcend as a movie maker and really explore these ideas, instead of making a feature length smear campaign. I'd rather his films from now on just have a little vote democrats icon at the bottom left, just to be clear from now on.
