Review of Where to Invade Next (2015) by Steve F — 18 Mar 2016
Possibly my favorite Michael Moore movie. While I often disagree with Michael's politics, I admire his ability to tell his story with humor and purpose. And in this case, with a welcome twist at the end.
Michael is notorious for handpicking facts that suit his worldview. Even adjusting for that, what does make it on screen makes you think - and possibly rethink, what American values are and should be.
The movie is about Michael stealing the best ideas from other countries on behalf of the U.S. It's a welcome, but heavily editorialized peek at other cultures. For example, the French school with gourmet lunches was clearly an outlier, not the norm even in France.
The film makes no attempt to show dissenting opinions or how the math might work for these socialist ideas. Regardless, it's worth the ride. In the age of Trump and public discontent, these are exactly the issues we should be thinking about - whether we go in Michael's direction or not.
