Review of Where the Wild Things Are (2009) by Andrew P — 16 Mar 2013
"Were the Wild Things Are" is a very different film, and at times seemed like it was trying too hard to be so. The good points of Wild Things rest mostly with the creatures themselves. In the middle of an overly computor generated film age, the 'real' monsters in Wild Things are refreshingly fun to watch.
Beyond that, the attemp by the filmakers to create a metaphor for the emotions of childhood, in making a full length film out of the famous 10 page children's book, falls a bit short. With overly emotional up's and down's (as children have), the sad parts come off a little too serious, while the happy, fun parts come off as pointless.
Wild Things is an adventure of child-like preportions that tries to do more than it should... or failed to do what it could.
