Review of Where the Wild Things Are (2009) by Hawk _ — 25 May 2015
I liked this movie for the atmosphere and the imagination on display. It truly reminds me of something from back in the 80's which is a good thing. The choice to use full body puppets over CGI was an ace one: I'm not one to hate on CGI, but practical effects have their purpose and this is one of them.
Now for the bad part: The film seemed to lack a dramatic hook for me. Some people will tell you that the film is heartbreaking, but I just didn't see it that way. Still it's a fascinating look at childhood regardless.
