Where the Wild Things Are'- I remember my brother having this book when he was younger and the illustrations transformed it from a simple 5-line children's book to something a little bit magic. The film brings that magic to life and reminds us of what it's like to be a kid again.
Spike Jonze created an interesting and thorough back story for Max, the little boy who is sent to bed without supper and travels to a different world inside his imagination. The main aspect of this film that made it truly special were the characters, or 'wild things' and how they reflected Max's emotions, fears and influences from his life. J.
Ames Gandolfini was a standout as Carol- representing Max's anger and impulsiveness. The sets and music made the film darker than the book and probably not suitable for young children, but definitely a must-see for anyone wanting to capture the innocence and nostalgia of their youth.
