Adapting a children's picture book into a melancholic and meditative film for adults is brave but problematic. I can see why this received mixed reviews given the somber tone and simple story but if you can swallow that, it's a curious, pensive and beautiful study of a child's psyche with an amazing soundtrack and gorgeous visuals.
