Review of Where the Truth Lies (1999) by Dannie W — 19 Mar 2006
Atom Egoyan's Hollywood movie. Again, like Cronenberg, he forgoes the weirdness that has marked his previous films and tells the story straight with the skill of a master craftsman. Alison Lohman is going to be a great actress.
Kevin Bacon and Colin Firth are perfect in the respective roles. All in all I wanted more. Nothing startled me about these character's decisions, no one was clearly likable, but everything was interesting enough to keep me hooked.
A mystery thriller that doesn't shock or surprise but rewards you with its well handled acting and directing. Nice to see Egoyan do this.
