Review of Where the Truth Lies (1999) by Andrew C — 17 Sep 2008
A crashing disappointment on most levels, especially from Egoyan.
Alison Lohman tries hard but is simply too young to convince as a journalist; Bacon is strangely middling to watch, while Firth actually pulls off a decent performance; and Rachel Blanchard is gorgeous, but the plot's about-face twist to her personality serves the script but not the character.
The plot is needlessly convoluted, generating little mystery or tension, and the film plays out exactly as you'd expect, especially if you notice the character they try hard not to make you notice.
