Review of Where the Buffalo Roam (1980) by Jaya R — 21 Nov 2011
Not bad attempt to put Hunter S Thompson up on the big screen ,but compared to Fear and Loathing it just feels like one sequence after another with not much point.
Murray is good as Thompson and he does manage to raise a smile as Thompson gets himself into more and more trouble.
What doesnt work is Peter Boyle who I belive is playing the Accosta role played Benicio Del Toro in Fear and Loathing.
He seems to have come from another film and everytime he appears the film falls as flat as a pancake.
Their are some good moments most notably Hunter getting an uptight press hack to chemically unwind ,but as I said it just doesnt hang somehow and all your get left with are pieces of a good film rahter that a fantastic whole.
Maybe I need to see it drunk to enjoy it lol.
