Review of Where Do We Go Now? (2011) by Olivier B — 20 Jun 2012
Now this IS brave: a film about wives and mothers trying to keep the peace in a Lebanese village of easily riled Christians and Muslims through creative schemes of distraction. There's a lot to be said for keeping this story simple and relying on the natural humour of the day to day challenges in relationships, cultures, age, gender and the name of your god.
The female ensemble is mostly strongly drawn, the males more simple and stereotypical, but the interplay between them is well executed, the laughs are out loud but not overcooked, tempered with a reminder of a difficult reality - and the resolutions of the women's challenges are often confronting.
