Review of When You're Strange (2010) by Mike G — 17 Aug 2010
Functions as a definitive documentary on The Doors and especially Jim Morrison, who is seen in a sometime different light than in Oliver Stone's movie in that the poet and individual comes out more than just the wild party beast that Morrison was known to be.
It's Jim's calmer moments that interest me more at this point still being a major fan of his group and their music, and this film sort of gets that. And then again maybe the only way for Jim to succeed as much as he did, was to be totally out of control of his own alcohol and drug-fueled life.
Would a sober Morrison have been half as captivating and impulsive and powerful? Would his imagination and creativity have been as intense?
