Review of When the Game Stands Tall (2014) by Dan F — 12 Sep 2014
I do not care for sports but I love a good movie. Consequently, three of my favorite films of all time are Pride of the Yankees, the Legend of Beggar Vance, and The Blind Side. Those movies I would give five stars without hesitation.
This movie, much to my surprise, I'm giving four stars. The movie has two drawbacks for me: 1) There's more actual football in this movie: and 2) I was concerned when I realized the football team in question was based at a Christian school and faith was discussed more frequently than I had expected.
I was raised Christian but don't have a lot of patients when it comes to Christians who feel they are better than other people. I was taught that real Christians love and respect all people, regardless of sexual orientation, religion, or race.
What became very clear after about 15 minutes was that this coach fell into the latter category. It really was a solid movie â?? just not an exceptional movie. But I did enjoy it and would recommend it.
