Review of When the Bough Breaks (2016) by Greg B — 21 Sep 2016
Movie goes on a long way before there is any inkling of a problem and with little foreshadowing. Then it becomes a lot of obvious cliches. The most obvious and frustrating one was that if the man just talked with his wife months before and let her in on the fact that the surrogate is a sociopath intent on destroying anyone who stood in the way of her imagined relationship with him they might all have been safer.
There were also details that just didn't make sense. The main one was the fact that the surrogate's ne'er do well fiance would be receiving all of the payment for her services to them even after he beat her up and promised to never have anything to do with her. Why should he have ever had anything to do with the transaction let alone profit from it. What the surrogate chose to do with the money later was her business. Also since he the fiance was so intimately involved in the deal the fact that no one ever did a background check on him was incongruous, irresponsible and negligent.
the fact that their surrogate living in the house with them for months on end was a pathological psycho killer obsessed with him.
