Review of When Nietzsche Wept (2007) by Neil U — 04 Jul 2008
This movie is fantastic & bold in many ways First, it's based on reality. That gets points. Second, they DID their research (way more than most filmmakers): actors, writers, location choices. All great.
This is a fascinating glimpse into several interesting peoples worlds, what they contributed to modern thinking, the women they loved and issues they faced...issues we all at one time or another deal with.
Watch the special features to get a greater appreciation for the work the actors and others involved did...and wiki nietzsche and freud for more, if curious. Yeah, it's not 100% totally accurate or 100% as good as 'the book', but duh, how could it be! Give em a break.
I think this glimpse into some complex and incredibly brilliant minds was very intruiging and delightful when so many movies have so little to say or to teach. I give everyone involved KUDOS for even attempting it and pulling it off as well as they did and without any grandiose budget nor excessive pandering to crowds it was not meant for.
The dream sequences were interesting and cracked me up too.
