Review of When Harry Met Sally... (1989) by Ben F — 19 Dec 2010
They really just don't make romantic comedies like they used to. "When Harry Met Sally" is a truly funny, sweet, and heart-felt experience. Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan both do an excellent job in this movie, and the wonderful script and acting, mixed with other well done components make this a must view.
The movie flows in such an interesting way. The first half of the film conveys to the audience how Harry and Sally keep running into each other in certain areas. It tries to tell the audience that it's fate that they keep seeing each other. The other half of the film is them becoming good friends, and them discovering their love for each other. It's really interesting, because I've never seen an execution like this. Rob Reiner really did an amazing job, and his composition in this film is very admirable.
Like I said before, Crystal and Ryan are great. They just have an awesome chemistry. Crystal is hilarious, and Ryan is sweet and sensitive. I really don't like her very often, but she was good in this. You had a guy who just tells it like it is, and a very tacky girl, and they fall for each other. It's interesting to see how two very different personalities can co-inside, and I really think Reiner hit it right on the nail with this one.
This movie just makes you feel so good. A lot of the scenes where they are walking in the park are so good, because the cinematography captures the amazing flow of the fall leaves and the wind. Everything just feels so real in this movie.
It's not a movie where I can right a long review. But it's a movie that should be seen, because this is how romantic comedies SHOULD be made. Wonderful acting, amazing script-writing, beautiful cinematography, and above all else, a feeling that's straight from the heart. This movie is great. Watch it.
