Review of When Harry Met Sally... (1989) by Stephen E — 12 Mar 2013
"When Harry Met Sally..." has been the main influence for a good number of romantic comedies over the years, which explains why so many of them fail. It's just too good of a movie and its wittiness and charm can't be imitated.
Most of the credit can be attributed to Nora Ephron's honest, endlessly quotable screenplay, but then there's also the gifted direction of Rob Reiner and the central performances of Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan, both of whom are fluid and hysterical in their roles.
"When Harry Met Sally..." really is just a great little film, and if Nora Ephron were alive and able to write the rest of the world's romantic comedies, the genre might redeem itself.
