Review of When a Stranger Calls (2006) by Nolan M — 28 Apr 2015
The first 20 minutes of the original are iconic. The rest of the movie before our protagonist pops back up again are less so. The remake decides to turn the first 20 minutes of the original into the whole movie.
Unfortunately, they fail to fill it with anything new or interesting, instead making the kind of horror film that's been made fun of mercilessly in the "Scream" and "Scary Movie" franchises.
The plot is a well-worn pop cultural touchstone, and great care would need to be taken to breathe new life into it. There is no care here, just another stupid horror movie.
